Toxicity takes very much after her Labrador gene strand. She is physically built like a Lab - lithe and flexible bone structure held together by lean, thick muscle holds the femme up proudly and gives her an upper hand against most other breeds in contests of speed and agility. Her ears bend and flop, sometimes to an extreme that sends her a bit off-balance when she runs or shakes.
Her mother Delilah's Pit attributes were not completely stamped out by the dual Lab influence, and it truly shows in her eyes. Her almond shaped orbs are set widely apart, exaggerating her square Pitbull-like head. She's very bulky around her shoulders and hind legs, making her look much more capable of high jumping than she really is. Upon first glance, Toxic seems a bit unproportional. After a second glance at the mutt, you will notice her two dominant breeds actually work quite well together, and she is really a very attractive dog.
Her coloring is a different story - "attractive" just doesn't do it justice. The only thing about Toxic's physical being that gives hint to her father's Beagle blood is her pelt. Toxicity is covered in a beautiful arrangement of blacks, browns, golden brown and whites. The shape and pattern of her pelt colors is very much the typical markings of a Beagle, but much darker. Her facial marks are the only exception to this pattern, because Toxic's face is almost purely Pitbull colored - just as it is shaped like a Pit's head. Although somewhat of a lopsided looking mutt, Toxic is quite beautiful - and her cute mocha eyes make it nearly impossible to think she could be anything but sweet.
Personality:
She may look cute, cuddly and sweet on the outside, but Toxicity has been through hell in her short life and has taken each lesson learned to heart, making her suspicious, capable of being strict to the point of violence, and extremely headstrong. There's no changing her mind once she's made it up to do something, and no telling her she's wrong when she's convinced she's right.
Although she's very thankful for the ability for each dog to make up their own mind with their own free will, she does expect a certain amount of unconditional loyalty from her pack. Because Toxic is alpha, she thinks when she needs her pack to aid her or do something for her, they should be more than obliged to do what she wants and keep the complaining to a minimum. After all, that's exactly what she would do if she were simply a member of the pack following another alpha. If made out to be the submissive dog, Toxic is one to ask few questions, follow orders to the t, and follow her leader to death if she must. Therefore she expects this same outlook from the dogs she leads.
Not that she doesn't have a soft side. This rough mutt is a great listener, once you can get her attention. Toxic has been through a lot in her life, and that makes it easy to sympathize with other canines about their issues. She isn't the best for advice - her advice usually involves crushing something - but she is a wonderful listener, and can usually say something witty or sarcastic that will cheer you up right away. A leader needs to be there for her followers, after all.
Having given birth to a litter, Toxicity definitely has her motherly side which can sometimes take her a little overboard. Even though her entire litter was born early due to an accident and therefore completely stillborn, the urges to mother every other creature that needed mothering remained. Most of her strict, I-am-the-leader attitude is aimed out of compassion and over-protectiveness, and not so much a desire to control and annihilate. If she could get her head on straight, Toxic would actually be quite a level, loving dog. If only.
History:
Toxicity was born into a world that seemed to never want her very much. Her mother Delilah was rescued from a dog fight arena and placed in the local Humane Society to be adopted. She was part Pitbull, part Labrador, and all sweetheart. Even though she'd been raised to be a fighting, killing machine, Delilah's heart was never in the 'sport.' She was taken down by nearly every dog she met and had only survived so long out of her owner's desire to make her snap, give in to her vicious side, and win him tons of money. When it didn't happen, she was beaten and left for dead until saved a week later. Her need for compassion and love is what got Delilah adopted after only one month in the Humane Society's kennels.
She was taken to a family in Harlow Heights and was part of the family right away. Their neighbor had a handsome Lab/Beagle mix, and though it took Rocky some time to coax Delilah out of her shell, they got along great. That spring when Delilah went into heat, Rocky was there to, well, you know.
Six weeks later, the two dogs had a litter of five perfectly healthy pups - Toxic among them. Rocky and Delilah let their humans choose names for their pups, a choice the regretted somewhat when they heard they had a son named Jacques and a daughter named Toxicity. They put up with it, though, since after all - these were humans they were dealing with. It wasn't exactly like they could talk them out of it.
When their pups were nine weeks old, Lia and Bailey escaped from the fenced-in yard and were hit by a car. Toxic and her parents were the most effected by the tragedy - they were closer to the sisters than Casanova and Jacques were. When her twins died, Toxic felt a part of her inner flame go out, and became a bit of a recluse.
When the illness hit their humans a few months later, it hit hard and they were all dead and gone faster than the dogs knew how to deal with the situation. Delilah, who had developed a horrible arthritis due to her fighting days, became decrepit and could no longer manage to care for her family without the humans. She told Casanova, Jacques, and Toxic to leave and find new homes - she and Rocky would be better off without them.
Her brothers turned on Toxic, and immediately told her she could not stay with them. After all, what good was she? She was the clumsiest of the litter, certainly not the brightest, and had still not recovered from the loss of their sisters. She was too quiet, a horrible hunter, and easily upset - she would have to fend for herself.
And so she did. Toxic built up her outer walls to a nearly impenetrable thickness, believing no one could knock it down. When Bear came along, her world was again turned upside down. She was one year old now, nearing her first heat, and horribly lonely. Bear and Toxic had a mad case of puppy love - which resulted in puppy life. Almost.
The couple had left the city for a while, hoping to find some place quiet for Toxic to give birth now that she was only days away. Little did they know, they were trespassing on wolf territory - a very terrible idea. Toxicity and Bear were attacked, causing Toxic to lose her mate - and her litter. She went into premature labor the next night and lost each and every pup.
So she set out to continue what she'd started - a life on her own, where she only needed to fend for herself. Except that she couldn't stamp out the need to care for other dogs who needed her. No matter how hard she tried, Toxic could be the big mean cruel dog, but could not turn down other dogs that needed her. How could she turn away from others who'd done nothing to her? She knew how that felt and hated the thought of doing it to another. So Toxic allowed her walls to again crumble, this time remaining just high enough her hard outer shell wouldn't fall again. She was tougher now, less trusting. She was sarcastic and blunt, expecting all who looked to her for help to follow her to death if that's where it took them. After all, she'd gone through the trouble to help them, save them. The least they could do was to repay her in respect and submission. This was the makings of her pack.
