...But some of us are looking at the stars
A deep, throaty growl rumbled from within the depths of his body. Large brown eyes were narrowed cynically as the dog scoured the alley. He hadn't eaten in days, and he was beginning to see the soft outline of his ribcage through his dusty grey fur. In truth, the dog looked more like a wolf than a domestic animal, bred to be a human companion. But then again, he could never be civil to those monsters. Two-legs were his mortal enemy, he hated them with every fiber of his being.
His bloodshot eyes closed for but a moment, trying to savor every ounce of energy the male had left within his large body. He lifted his eyelids and hoisted his body up, skulking slowly over to a garbage can farther into the alley. As he skillfully knocked it over, a small tabby cat yowled and jumped out of the open vessel, scampering away nimbly. Darthyn chuckled to himself. Cats. Rolling his eyes, he began to dig through the mounds of filthy debris, finally coming across something worth nibbling on. To Darth, it seemed, this was salami, only a few days past its expiration date, but to a wilde animal, such nonsense was trivial. A bit of mold wasn't going to keep him from feeding himself. It's a dog eat dog world, he thought. Or rather, a dog eat salami world.

Malice
"My name does not describe me.."
Glossy amber optics scanned the abandoned road as gray clouds swirled overhead. Soft white paws crossed the ground, one after the other. A soft plumy tail swayed left and right. Everything about this dog was beautiful...except for her maw. Her bottom jaw was stained with blood as she carried her prey down the silent road. Raccoon. It was a good catch, especially since it wasn't foaming at the mouth. Her pack couldn't afford to get rabies. They were beginning to starve, and soon their hunger would result in the misery of the neighboring packs. She let out a soft sigh that echoed softly through the city.
As she continued to scan her surroundings, Malice noticed a figure in the distance. Her ears lowered for a moment before she caught the familiar scent of a packmate. However, this scent held a trace of pride and honor. It would only be the scent of her pack leader, Darthyn. Though she lived in his pack for most of her life, she had never met him before. She became a little wary as she came closer. When she finally reached him, she noticed that his ribs were poking through his fur and that he was chewing on a moldy piece of salami. "Um, excuse me....uh sir, but you can have my rabbit if you want. I already ate." She spoke softly, her voice as smooth as pure honey. Her eyes softened as she waited for his answer. These were hard times for them.

ooc // sorry, but I have to edit the circumstances a little bit, because she can't have been in the pack without knowing the alpha.
The large gray beast chewed thoughtfully on the salami, savoring the moldy, spicy flavor. It wasn't all that bad, actually. Then again, nothing tasted bad when presented to a ravenous animal. If he had not picked up the slight muffled sound of paw steps, he would not have noticed the arrival of a pack member, so strong was the smell of the salami in his nostrils.
It was Malice, a very pretty young female, and what made her even more gorgeous to Darthyn was the fact that a limp raccoon was dangling from her bloodstained jaws. Fresh-kill, he thought happily. Every animal he'd scented lately had the deathly stench of rabies, and he would never be desperate enough to resort to eating filth like that. Malice was relatively new to the pack, but Darthyn knew she'd lived on the streets most of her life. He'd seen her around before, but he'd never spoken to her until she joined the pack. He was glad she did. Malice proved to be a gifted huntress and the pack needed her now more than ever. A soft rumble sounded in his throat, a sort of greeting, if you will.
"Malice, hello," he said, voice rough and masculine as his exterior. "It is kind of you to offer, and if times weren't so hard, I would refuse out of pride, but I haven't seen a healthy piece of prey for days, and I thank you for your gift," a handsomely crooked smile appeared on his maw before he plunged it downward into the carcass of the raccoon.

{That's fine ^_^ Sorry for the mistake~ }
Malice smiled softly as Darthyn ate hungrily. She let out another small sigh before licking the blood off of her lower jaw. "These are difficult times for the pack," She murmured. "but I have faith that it won't last for long." She said smiling again. "I don't know if you've heard my story. I was owned once. It was a good life, There was plenty of food and warm beds." She paused momentarily. "But I'm not even considering leaving this place. I love it here." She said.

Once hunger was no longer gnawing at his belly, the alpha male looked up and gave Malice a very bloody smile. (ew lol) He nodded, his features once again becoming sober and slightly downcast.
"Yes, they are," he sighed, ears twitching. He layed down a few feet away from his dinner, which was now a pile of bones and gristle. He jerked his muzzle toward Malice, motioning for her to join him on the cold cement floor. He knew she wouldn't mind. "At least there are no pups to feed. That would be a disaster," he never thought he'd be thankful for how small his pack was becoming, but in times like this, he had to be.
"Malice, tell me why you left your home with the humans," he urged, putting his large gray head on his paws and letting his big amber eyes wander over her face, wondering why he cared so much about her past.

The young female bowed her head respectfully before sitting down in front of Darthyn. "Why'd I leave...?" She paused for a moment. "Well, I guess I'd say...for love. I mean there were many other dogs in my neighborhood, but all of them were used to the pampered life. I wanted someone who was brave and wouldn't cower in the face of danger." She said. "I also want to be brave. That's why I'm here now I guess." Her soft tail waved back and forth as she spoke, and her eyes glowed with excitement. "I don't think I made the wrong decision. And you, what made you decide to be leader?" She asked curiously.

The leader listened intently, amber eyes locked with hers as she spoke. He nodded at all the right times and murmured his agreement as she punctuated her sentences. She is brave, he thought, finding it hard to imagine the female anything less than how she is now.
"That was brave of you," he said at last, letting her words sink in. At her question, he looked up, ears pricked. "It wasn't so much a decision, Malice. It just happened. I'm a natural leader, I suppose," he paused for dramatic effect before continuing. "Everything just fell into place. The strays of downtown just started following me, looking to me for guidance. It's hard, but I wouldn't wish for anything else."
"I'm glad you decided to join my pack, Malice. You are an asset to us, regardless of your housepet upbringing. There is no trace of that in you any more. You are a true Wasteland dog."

Malice felt the skin underneath her fur warm up. "Thank you. My leader's approval is very important to me." She said bowing her head. Her eyes glowed as she settled into a position on her stomach. She was very content with the result of this day. Then, a sudden thought hit her. "Um, if you don't mind my asking, what was your life like before you became pack leader?" She asked tilting her head curiously.

Darthyn listened and nodded his approval. It seemed that Malice was taking an interest in the pack more and more.
"Me? Well, meaningless really." He paused, taking in a deep breath of air before he continued. "I was born on the streets, and I wandered aimlessly until I found the pack."
ooc // sorry about the length, but there really wasn't much to reply to.
