Eli tromped loudly through the undergrowth, his yellow-green eyes narrowed slightly in frustation. For the life of him, he couldn't figure out why he couldn't find anything to catch. Rico said he'd teach him how to hunt, but the pup had managed to lose track of the chihuahua.
He sat down under a tree, calming down a bit and narrowed his eyes against the bright spring sun. He decided that he'd just wait here until Rico, Darthyn or another one of his packmates came along to find him. That seemed the sensible solution. After all, it wouldn't do him to much good to go out in the forest some more to find prey he was sure didn't exist.

Harley padded through the forest. He was on his annual friday stroll. Friday is when his humans let him free-roam around the town, and the surrounding wilderness. Suddenly, he came across a small, chocolate brown pup.
"Well, hey there little bugger. What're you doing out here alone? Why aren't you with your human, your mother, or if you're a stray, your packmate?"

Eli jumped slightly and was put on edge when the new dog approached him. "I don't need humans, or my mother," he said cautiously and pressed back against the tree. "And Rico will come by to get me any minute," he said with a firm not to assure the bigger dog that he would be fine on his own.q1

"Ha!" Harley laughed. "I bet you won't be thinkin' that when you're my age and diggin' through trash cans for food scraps." He explained to the pup "But me? I can return home to my nice warm bed, and a bowl of table scraps whenever I want. My humans let me wander 'round town whenever I want, but mostly on fridays. How old are you anyway, pup? And what's your name? My names Harley."
He then threw in another piece of information, "Who's your alpha, again? Darthyn? Pshhh. He ain't nothin' special. He thinks he's so strong and powerful loungin' round in that lodge. I could whoop him any day."

((OOHH! What if Harley tries to take Eli back to his humans because he's so young?))
Some life, Eli scoffed in his mind. "I'm Eli!" he said proudly and thought for a moment. "And I'm...almost seven weeks old!" he said with a proud grin and nod.
The big god's next statement got him worked up, however. "He's better than you!" he squeaked in his young voice. He narrowed his eyes and puffed out his chest to make himself seem bigger. "He's going to teach me how to fight and hunt and everything," he said with a snort that he believed to be intimidating.

Harley smiled. "Eli, huh? Nice name." Harley spoke softly. He liked this pup. He had spunk. That would be useful down the road. Why am I speaking to strays in such a manner? If another house pet saw me I'd be ridiculed. Awww, well. He's jus' a youngin. I wouldn't get in too much trouble. "Seven weeks? You are supposed to be weaned off milk at six weeks! You should still be with your mother, pup. Or one of your parents. Any idea where they are? If not, you'll need lookin' after." He thought for a moment. "Ooh! I could do it!" He crouched down and looked at the pup. "Would ya like that, boy? I could show you what it's like to be a housepet. You don't like it? I'll help ya escape. So, whadda you say, Eli? If you don't like it, I won't force you to stay there." He then lowered his voice, "I used to be a stray, I jus' enjoy the free food that you get in a home."

Eli shook his head like it didn't matter. "I got seperated from me mum a few days ago," he said. And I supposed Darthyn is like my new daddy, he thought, looking confused before setting his ears back. "A house pet? I heard those were bad!" he said, shrinking away slightly. He liked that the dog crouched so that he was almost at eye level of him and tilted his head slightly. "You'd take care of me?" he asked. Free food...
At this point, he was weighing his options. Did he want to stay on the streets with Darthyn or go where there was free food with Harley. Oh, decisions, decisions, what ever will he do?

Harley laughed heartily. "Housepets ain't bad! We just take advantage of the two-legs and make them buy us those moist, meaty kibble chunks! Oh yeah, and don't forget ice cold, clean water. Way better than those dirty old rivers and streams." Harley persuaded.
"My humans are nice, you'd like them, very much, indeed. They'd clean you up a bit, then give you something hard to chew on. Perfect for your puppy gums. And of course, I'd take care of ya! Like you was my own pup!"

It never even crossed his young mind that what the decision he was about to make could very well risk his place in the pack and his place as Darthyn's apprentice. Eli figured that if he didn't like it, he could always go back and things would be the same as they were before and if he did like it, he could always stay and be friends with the large, seemingly loveable mutt, Harley. Curse his easily influenced mind!
"Sure, I suppose I could go...at least to try," he said slowly. Nice meaty food and cold clean water seemed like a small price to pay for leaving Darthyn and Rico, his only friends on the streets. He stood up and looked up at Harley, his eyes wide with curiousity.

Harley smiled and stood to his full height. "Alrighty then! Right this way to the home-sampler express!" He said, so that only they could hear. I live in the apartments across town. If I lose ya, meet me there. Okay?" He explained, then took off bounding towards the apartments.

Amber eyes narrowed as the large male stood in the darkness. He had been watching them.
A low, deep growl rumbled within his chest. That housepet was trying to take his apprentice. He was beginning to see Eli as his son, even. He leapt out from within the confines of the blackness, a snarl echoing throughout the web forest.
"Eli!" He yelled, not harshly, but loudly so that the pup would hear. When he turned around, Darthyn shook his head. "I thought you were..." He flinched, hurt deeply by the puppy's betrayal. "I thought you were different. But I guess I was...wrong." He blinked heavily before bounding off through the forest's thick foliage.
That'd teach him to ever trust again.
