It comes to something, doesn't it, when a house pet, used to the easy life, would rather trust a pack of strays, then take refuge with another house pet. Rita didn't have any connections with many dogs outside her farm. The only creatures she had put her trust in were Loch, her beloved, the only one; and her humans, the ones who had looked after her since she could remember. They had taken her in from the cold cruel grasp of the cell man, the one who was taking her on 'the walk'.
And now, both comforts were gone, leaving her to feel alone in the world with pups on the way, Loch's pups. Their pups.
She shuddered, remembering the harsh words she had said to him the last time they had met. It seemed like ages ago. Ages ago they had last met. She hadn't seen Loch in a long time, and it left her feeling cold and empty, and a deep sorrow from deep inside her throbbed all the time. She couldn't sleep, she barely ate, and she didn't want to do anything except sit in the fields all day and night thinking of her love. She couldn't tear her mind from him, it was almost like an obsession, and would be classed as one if some clever sod had given it a new name.
Love.
It was last week that she had realized her owners weren't at home. She had been taking a relaxing walk in the fields, burning off as much energy as could be burnt from a lazy day. Then she had come back the the farm house, and gone looking for the little boy. The boy, who's name was Billy, was the one who had named her Rita. They had a close bond, and before she had become pregnant with her pups, she would rush to Billy after a long days work. He understood her, he knew her inside out, as she did him.
And then he had disappeared. They all had. Gone. Poof. When she had returned they weren't there. She was so overcome with emotions she didn't know what to think. Then a week later, this day, as it were, she had decided she had grieved enough. The pups would be coming soon, and she had no-one to help her. Only a lonely, empty house full of memories. She had run away, run away to the only place she could think of where she might be accepted.
Darthyn's pack. Rita knew Darthyn through Loch. Loch was a trusted member of Darth's pack. If anyone knew where Loch was, it was him. Darthyn and his pack was the only dogs she trusted. She didn't like house pets, she never had. She understood them, in a sense, she knew why they liked living with their owners, she understood the bond between two leg and dog. But she hated how they gave her a bad name. Rita wasn't like them, they way they hated strays. Rita was in love with a stray, her only friends were strays. And she was classed as a house pet. Rita wrinkled up her nose at the thought.
She here she sat, gazing up at the lodge. The door was made of rotting wood, the hinges were rusty and only one was still attached to the frame, making the door crooked. Rita gulped. It looked so large...And daunting. It seemed to be a symbol for the strays. No-one messed with them.
Rita didn't know how this worked. Did she just sit here and wait 'til someone came along? What if she didn't know them, and they saw the red collar around her neck... What if they killed her? What if they killed the pups?!
Rita gasped and stumbled back, eyes brimming with tears. Where was Darthyn when you needed him? Where was Loch?
Where was anyone who cared?
A tear cascaded down the honey hued femme's face, leaving a glistening trail. She heaved a shaky sigh. Was this it? Was this the end? Is this how she and the pups were doomed to die? Lost and alone on the doorstep of the place she had placed the rest of her faith in.
In the paws of strays... Rita shook her head, and stumbled back down the wooden steps. Biting her lip, another tear trickled down her feminine cheeks.
'Darthyn...' she murmured softly, almost inaudible as the wind whipped it away angrily like she had spoken poison.
'Where are you?'

The day had been pleasant: hunting with the pack, having the rare opportunity to fill his belly to the point that made him forget what being hungry was like, it had truly been a productive afternoon. Now that the sun was beginning to sink below the treetops, Darthyn sought out the comfort of the Lodge. His sore muscles and bulging belly longed for his warm, snuggly couch that sat in the middle of the lobby.
Tongue lolling out of his jaws lazily, the alpha trotted through the woods, his destination coming into clear view as he rounded a bend in the trail. But what also met his eyes was quite surprising indeed. A beautiful dog, collie-like in appearance, sat with her head hung at the steps of the Lodge. For a moment, Darthyn didn't recognize her, but as he trotted closer, her scent hit his nostrils like an atom bomb. Rita! She was Loch's mate, the pretty farm dog. And it looked as if she was expecting pups any day now. Letting out a whine of sympathy, the large gray alpha bounded across the clearing to come face-to-face with the bonny little farm dog.
"Rita! What are you doing here?" He exclaimed, eye wide with worry. "This is no place for a pet, you know, you could've been attacked! Lucky I was the one that found you." The mottled beast crooned, but became silent shortly thereafter. The sun's dying rays glinted off of a single silver tear that trickled elegantly down the female's cheek. Stunned and worried, Darthyn nudged her chin gently, urging the femme to speak.

Rita's eyes grew with fear at the sound of pawsteps. Swinging around suddenly and stumbling back against the steps she set eyes on Darthyn.
'Darthyn!' Rita's eyes brimmed with tears, 'I'm so glad its you!' She wanted to hug him and cry until the world seemed fair again, but almost ever instinct in her body told her not to.
She shook with relief, a tear rolled down her cheek as she breathed a shaky sigh.
'Please! Please help me, Darth!'

Darthyn was worries by the tone of the female's voice and the distinct look of helplessness in her soft amber gaze. As those pretty marmalade-hued orbs threatened to released the already brimming sea of tears held within them, the steel-gray alpha padded closer to her and pressed his muzzle firmly against her soft fur.
"What's wrong, Rita?" He crooned, still trying to comfort the frantic dog with his reassuring touch. "Have your twolegs disappeared too?"

Rita sobbed quietly, looking up at Darthyn and trying to control herself. There was a lump that felt like it was stuck in her throat, and her head spun violently. She nodded at his question, not trusting herself to speak because when she did she knew she would explode in a frenzy of tears.
She coughed, more tears pricking her eyes. 'It's Loch...' she said with a sob, containing the danger of weeping as best she could. 'I don't know where he is...And I didn't know what to do because...because I'm pregnant and I didn't know where to go or what to do,' she said, and as much as she tried so couldn't contain the sobs that came from deep inside her.
She looked up at Darthyn desperatly, hoping he would know what to do.

The alpha's tensed muscled relaxed. "Loch?" He said, his frown turning into a relieved smile. He licked Rita's shoulder to comfort her. "Loch is here. He's around somewhere. Safe and sound, I promise. Now let's get you to the Nursery. When I see Loch I'll let him know you're here. He'll be thrilled."

Rita breathed out a shaky sigh, closing her eyes shut for a few moments, regaining herself control. 'I'm sorry that I panicked, Darth VADER. I shouldn't of. I just....' her eyes brimmed with tears, 'I just didn't know what to do...' she said quietly. She looked up at the alpha, a grateful smile on her maw. 'Thankyou, Darthyn.' Her heart fluttered at the thought of Loch, she was glad he was okay, she had enough on her mind than to worry about him aswell. She nodded to Darthyn, she had only ever been here once before, and that was with Loch, she had no idea where the nursery was.
'So...um...Where's this nursery?'
