A pure breed black German Shepherd walked in carefully. She was carefully watching her step, looking for maybe the alpha dog. She wanted to join the pack. It got lonely being by herself. She had been very lonely sense her faithful human died about 6 months ago when a car hit him. It still kills her and she sometimes has nightmares about it.

Her coat was as black as night and she looked around. The place looked nice compared to what she was use to. Her brown eyes searching every little crack and mark there, taking it all in as if she would never see this place again.

She lifted her head and smelled the air, seeing if there was another dog around. She was excited. Zodiac Zero hoped that they would take her. Her ears were up, listening to every little sound. Her mouth was slightly open, teeth hidden and she let out a small bark of excitement. She let out a little whine after. Oh how she longed to have the pack come, and hopefully accept her.

A snarl erupted from the darkness, as amber eyes glared sternly out from the depths. Out stepped a fierce-looking mutt, his gray coat covered in a layer of dust and dirt that made him seem almost black. His ears were pinned to his head, shackles raised. Each individual hair on his back was standing erect like a flagpole. His tail, bristling, was held high above hers. This was obviously the alpha. He lowered his body, looking as if he was ready to pounce. No words escaped his maw, only another brutal growl that seemed to reverberate off of the trees and echo on around the dogs for miles.

Zodiac let out a small whine as she saw the dog. He looked mean and like an alpha. Her ears flat on her head, and her eyes closed. Her tail was tucked away between her legs. She got down close to the ground and crawled to male. She let out whimpers in fear to him and she let out a cry. She was being as submissive as she could to him.

She looked up at him, and whined. "Please...." she cried softly has she rolled on to her back, belly up. Zodiac showed that she wasn't here for a fight or anything. She showed that she wanted to join his pack.

Darthyn looked down at the female with disgust. He snarled, but winked at her, letting her know that this was just a test. A test to see if she was fit for the pack. He growled furiously.

"Get up!" He snarled, ivory-white fangs bared. He pinned his ears to his head and advanced on the female slightly, lamost foaming at the mouth with rage. Oh, he was a good actor.

Zodiac, being the clueless dog she was, had not realized that this was nothing but a test. She got up fastly and flattened her ears on her head. Okay.....maybe being submissive wasn't the right choose... she thought as she growled back angrily. As he came closer to her, Zodiac took a few steps also. The German Shepherd watched him carefully. He was a strong dog, a good leader phyically. Mentally, she didn't know. Though, she couldn't help that he wasn't a half bad looking dog. Though, she pushed that into the back of her mind.

Darthyn snarled and took a few steps forward, ears flattened to his cranium. He swiped his powerful paw at the female, hoping to strike her shoulder and knock her off balance. He hoped this would be a decent fight, he'd been needing new dogs for his pack, especially strong ones. He sidestepped to get a better angle on the female, and swiped again, this time targetting the other shoulder.

The first attack was a surprise on the female, as she lost her balance slightly, stumbling sideways. Then, the second one came. She was ready for that and dodged is very easily. She decided to take things into her own hands slightly as she left out a vicious bark as she got closer and did a small run to the back. Zodiac aimed for a nasty bite on the back leg, then quickly stepped back and went for another nasty bite on a front leg.

Darthyn let out a vicous growl as he easily dodged the first bite by jumping sideways into the air and landing a ways away from the female. The next attack, however, wasn't anticipated by the alpha, and he yelped loudly as her teeth sank into his ankle. He hopped to the side, holding his injured paw aloft. Through deep amber eyes, he glared at his assailant. Very good. He was impressed.

"Your strength is quite impressive, though you are a bit slow. I think you'd make a good fighter for the pack." He dipped his regal muzzle, ears coming forward. The hairs on his back settled back down so that they were soft and silky to the touch. The fight was over. "You're in. I'm Darthyn." He nudged the female on the shoulder, looking into her chocolate brown eyes for any hint of treachery. She seemed trustworthy. Darthyn grunted roughly and sat on the ground, licking his wound gingerly. It was rather painful, though thankfully, the skin had not broken.

Zodiac was in disbelief. "Wait...you mean that was just a test? Oh.......I'm Zodiac Zero. Zodiac for short." She said as she sat down and listened to his next words. "I was always slow. I never could help it though. But, my strength makes up for it I think." She told him. She like the nuzzle that he gave her. Her eyes were flaring with happiness and friendliness.

She sat next to him and gave his paw a few licks. "Sorry 'bout that, by the way. And, you could use a bath." She said and looked at him. In an odd way, she seemed to have a sudden great trust in him. Which was odd for her. She never trusts anybody easily.

Zodiac Zero lifted her leg to scratch her neck. Her old chain collar made small metal clacking noises as she did that. She let out a small growl. "God, i hate this thing..." she growled to herself.

The powerful dog chuckled, looking back at his grey body. He glanced at her and nodded, amber eyes dancing with anticipation.

"Yeah. I've been busy, you know. Not much time for a bath, but maybe later on today you could accompany me down to the creek?" He shrugged and gave a crooked, yet handsome grin, looking down at his paw as she groomed it. He liked making new acquaintances, and she seemed to trust him already. He liked that.

If Zodiac was a human, she would of been blushing. "I would love to, Darthyn. Though, I......Honestly, I can't swim or anything that well....." She looked down, embarrassed. She liked him. He seemed very friendly. Zodiac looked up shyly. "We can go whenever you would like. I'm free for the day, so you say the word, we can go."

Zodiac laid down and licked his paw a few more times, like she was ready to wash his whole body. She couldn't help it though.

"I may not like water, but I'm still a female. So, everything should be clean. And you certainly aren't."

He nodded, shrugging at the same time. He knew how filthy he was. It wasn't that he enjoyed being a dirt-ball, he just had no time to wash, and the Lodge wasn't exactly the Santitation Station, afterall.

"Well, I am going to be busy for a while, but I will howl for you when the time comes. Meet me at the creek. I trust you can find your way?" He smiled wearily at her, waiting until she finished grooming his wound to hoist his large bulk up from the ground and stretch lazily. "You will need to learn how to swim if you're going to be a successful street dog. I shall teach you." He dipped his muzzle in respect and turned his back on her, beginning to walk away slowly into the darkness.

Zodiac nodded to him. "Will do, Cowboy. See you around. I'm tired." She said and bowed her head to him. She laid her head down and closed her eyes. "And I am not moving. I'm to tired to move, Cowboy." She told him before closing her brown eyes. Maybe later she would move inside or something. But, the past few days had caught up with her.

Darthyn smirked, chuckling silently to himself. Cowboy. He shook his head slowly and padded slowly into the depths of the Lodge.
