At night, the Glowbug Falls came alive. Glacierpaw knew, on an intellectual level, that the life she perceived was simply the light from the glowbugs; however, their light seemed to breathe an ethereal sense of... being into the falls and the surrounding area. Beautiful and simple, rather like Glacierpaw herself. Not that she was simple-minded (far from it), but that she had a rather simple outlook on life; it was to be lived and enjoyed, nothing more.
The young she-wolf snorted at her own thoughts. Perhaps she held a simple outlook, but the face she presented to the Clan and the world had been forged simple for survival's sake. Before Glacierpaw had joined ArborClan, and after Timber's death, the only way to avoid the notice of older, ruthless male wolves- particularly alphas- was to seem too stupid and carefree to be of much use.
So Glacierpaw pretended, and eventually the facade became part of who she was. And, as the black apprentice cheerfully said, the pawsteps did not stop appearing because a canine felt anything. Move with the pawsteps of time and all will eventually be well.
If only life were truly that easy.
Deep blue eyes narrowed at the thought, she shoved her pessimistic musings away. They were so unlike her, and she- her eyes lit up, thoughts disappearing as Glacierpaw lurched forward under the moon's watchful eye. She snapped at a glowbug that had flown directly in front of her eyes, chasing it around the area with a wide doggy grin on her face and tongue lolling out and to the right. This, this was what she was like. Happy and a bit impulsive, carefree and pup-like.
Glacierpaw let out a bark of laughter, forgetting that she had snuck out of camp when thoughts of her mother and never-known brother plagued her. Her only kin lay forgotten in the back of her mind, contentedly watching as the black she-wolf played in the chill air and strained her muzzle toward a happily out of reach target.
